Export a Cabrillo log

Find your logging program and save a Cabrillo copy of your contest contacts.

Log submission for 2026 is closed. Submissions reopen in September 2027.

Start with your Salmon Run log

  1. Open the log for this contest in your logging program.
  2. Choose its Cabrillo export option. Select version 3 if offered.
  3. Save the file somewhere easy to find and keep it with your original log.

Files often end in .log, .cab, .cbr, .cabrillo, or .txt. Any filename extension is accepted; the contents must be Cabrillo. A PDF, spreadsheet, or ADIF file is a different format; renaming it does not convert it.

Keeping contacts in Excel or LibreOffice? Use Spreadsheet to Cabrillo for Excel/CSV templates, CSV conversion, and local downloads.

  3. Note the filename and folder in the success message.

I only have an ADIF file

ADIF (.adi, .adif, or .adx) moves contacts between logging programs. A Cabrillo contest log is a different format. About the ADIF format.

  1. Try the original program first. Look for a Cabrillo export from its contest log; an ADIF export may leave out contest information.
  2. If you need to import ADIF into another program, back up your log and create a separate, newly named database and Salmon Run contest log there. Follow that program’s ADIF import instructions.
  3. Check the imported contacts. The contact count, callsigns, UTC dates and times, bands, modes, signal reports, and both sent and received locations must match your original log.
  4. Export Cabrillo from that contest log and keep the exported file.

A conversion cannot recover an exchange that was never recorded. Check the original log; do not guess a missing county, state, province, or DX prefix. A signal report such as 59 is only part of the exchange.

Check your exported file

Keep your original log and the exported file. You can open the export in a plain-text editor such as Notepad to check it against the Cabrillo example. It should have a QSO: line for each contact, with the information actually exchanged.

If you operated from more than one county, check the sent county on each contact line.

Exporting or downloading a file does not submit an entry. Keep it for your records.
